Secure Your Caustic Materials
Failing to store caustic materials correctly presents severe health and safety hazards, particularly when acids and alkalis are mixed with other incompatible chemicals. The QMP Acid / Alkali Storage Cupboards provide a dedicated, highly identifiable storage solution to safeguard your workplace. Designed to segregate dangerous substances, these robust cabinets help you meet stringent workplace safety standards while giving you complete peace of mind that your employees and premises are protected from chemical leaks and unauthorised access.
- Construction: Robust UK-manufactured carcass constructed from 0.7mm mild steel.
- Features: Fitted with an integral liquid-tight sump to safely capture accidental chemical spills.
- Premium Finish: Finished in a white epoxy polyester powder coat featuring a Germ Guard anti-bacterial compound.
- Flexibility: Includes adjustable, spill-retaining galvanised shelves supporting up to a 50KG UDL.
- Locking: Secured by a reliable “no snag” 2-point locking mechanism with an all-metal handle.
Premium UK-Manufactured Construction
Proudly designed and manufactured in the UK, these heavy-duty cupboards are engineered for longevity and resilience in demanding industrial environments. The core structure is formed from a 0.7mm mild steel pop-riveted carcass. Furthermore, the door apertures are cleverly designed with return bends to completely eliminate open gaps, ensuring a tightly sealed unit. To maintain a hygienic workspace, the exterior is finished in a high-gloss white powder coat (BS 00.E.55) that features QMP’s exclusive Germ Guard Active Technology to prevent bacterial growth.
Key Technical Features:
-
Advanced Spill Management: Each floor-standing unit features a fully welded 1.2mm mild steel integral liquid-tight sump at the base. This encourages the safe and correct handling of chemical spills through the use of absorbents.
-
Robust Security: The 0.9mm mild steel doors are reinforced with a vertically welded stiffener and secured using a ‘no snag’ handle with a 2-point locking mechanism.
-
Heavy-Duty Shelving: Supplied with adjustable, spill-retaining galvanised shelves that provide superior spill management. These heavy-duty shelves boast a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL) capacity of up to 70kg to support dense liquid containers.
-
Fire Safety Compliance: The range comes with supplied warning/hazardous labels and holds a Reaction to Fire Classification EN 13501-1.

FAQ's
Question |
Technical Answer |
|---|---|
| What does COSHH stand for and why do I need a cabinet? | COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. You need a specialised cabinet to safely contain corrosive, toxic, or irritant substances, ensuring compliance with UK health and safety laws. |
| What is a sump and what capacity should it have? | A sump is a leak-proof base designed to catch spills. UK regulations require the sump to hold 110% of the largest container or 10% of the total volume stored, whichever is greater. |
| What do the different cabinet colours mean? | Yellow: Flammables White: Acids and Alkalis Red: Flammables or Chemicals Green: Pesticides & Agrochemicals Grey: General Hazardous |
| Can I store flammables and acids in the same cabinet? | NO. You must segregate incompatible substances. Storing flammables with corrosive acids can lead to dangerous chemical reactions or compromise the cabinet’s integrity. |
| How much flammable liquid can I store? | DSEAR regulations recommend a maximum of 50 litres for highly flammable liquids (flashpoint < 23°C) and up to 250 litres for other flammable liquids within a workroom. |
| Are these COSHH cabinets fire-rated? | Our QMP Steel units are Reaction to Fire EN 13501-1 certified and have a performance of A2, s2, d0. |
| Do pesticide cabinets require ventilation? | Yes. Our pesticide cabinets feature louvred doors to allow for natural ventilation, preventing the dangerous build-up of vapours and fumes. |
| Can COSHH cabinets be used outdoors? | Steel cabinets are for indoor use. For outdoors, we recommend our Hazardous Bins or Chests. We can also provide quotes for galvanised cabinets. |
| Should the cabinet be bolted to the floor? | Highly Recommended. Floor-bolting tall cabinets prevents tipping, especially when heavy liquid containers are stored on upper shelves. |
| Are the shelves adjustable? | Yes. Shelves can be moved in 25mm increments to accommodate various container heights while maintaining structural safety. |
| Manufacturing & Delivery | All HSE Store COSHH cabinets are British-made and delivered fully assembled to ensure they meet safety integrity standards from day one. |
| Regulations (DSEAR) | Our cabinets help you meet DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) requirements for fire-resistant, secure storage. |
