When working at extreme heights of up to 4.95m (15 treads), standard mobile steps can sometimes feel unnerving. The Steptek Heavy Duty BS Certified Range is engineered to eliminate that feeling entirely. Its defining feature is the Splayed Stability Base—the heavy gauge steel frame flares outwards at the bottom, creating a significantly wider footprint than standard straight-leg steps. Combined with outboard-mounted 200mm rear wheels , this design offers superior lateral stability that meets the strict requirements of BS EN 131-7.

Heavy Gauge “Box Section” Construction

While most warehouse steps are made from round tube, this “Extra Heavy Duty” model is hand-built from welded steel box section and bar. This makes the chassis incredibly rigid, resisting the flex and twist that can occur in lighter steps over years of arduous operation. It is fully Kitemarked (KM 608967) and rated for a 150kg Safe Working Load, having been overload tested to 200kg for total peace of mind.

Intelligent “Hand Lock” Safety Bar

Safety is enforced mechanically. The unit features a Hand Lock Lever Anchorage system linked to a protruding Safety Warning Bar.

Mobile Mode: When the wheels are engaged, the yellow safety bar sits in front of the steps, physically deterring the user from climbing.
Static Mode: When the lever is pulled to lock the rubber feet onto the floor, the bar retracts, clearing the path for safe ascent.

Commercial Specs for Industrial Use

Designed for the busiest warehouses, these steps feature a generous 540mm x 500mm top platform, allowing operators to work comfortably for extended periods. The tread width is a spacious 490mm. You can choose between two heavy-duty tread surfaces:

Ribbed Rubber: For excellent grip in clean, dry indoor environments.
Expamet (Expanded Metal): An open-mesh steel tread that offers aggressive traction and allows dirt or water to fall through—ideal for harsher industrial zones.

Can these be used outdoors?	We strongly advise against using standard Steptek units outside. For wet or outdoor environments, you require galvanised warehouse steps to prevent rust and ensure safety. Contact us for a quote on galvanised models.
What safety standards do these meet?	Our BSI Steptek range is manufactured to meet EN131-7 standards for mobile leaning ladders and steps. They feature high handrails and kickboards to ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety regulations.
What is the maximum weight capacity?	Most of our standard mobile warehouse steps have a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 150kg. This accommodates a single user plus tools or stock items. Always check the specific product data sheet for heavy-duty variants.
Do they arrive assembled?	All of our Steptek units are delivered fully welded and ready for immediate use. Larger warehouse steps, usually 10 tread and above, will be supplied in 2 parts for on site assembly, this is for transportation reasons.
How does the braking or safety system work?	Our mobile steps use either a side hand lock lever and anti ascent bar or weight-activated retractable castors. Both systems ensure that once the user applies weight or engages the lock, the rubber feet grip the floor securely to prevent movement.
Are they safe for mezzanine floors?	Yes. Steptek steps are designed with non-marking rubber feet and high-quality castors, making them suitable for standard warehouse concrete, mezzanine flooring, and commercial surfaces without causing damage.
