🏗️ Maximize Space Without Compromising Strength: Extra Heavy Duty Narrow Base Steps

In a modern warehouse or retail environment, space is often your most valuable—and limited—resource. The Steptek Extra Heavy Duty Narrow Base Mobile Steps are specifically engineered to solve the "tight aisle" dilemma. While standard heavy-duty steps often require a wide footprint for stability, these units feature a slimmed-down chassis designed to glide through narrow corridors and congested stockrooms where other steps simply cannot go.

By choosing the Narrow Base model, you are no longer forced to choose between a high load capacity and the ability to access your most cramped storage areas. It is the ultimate problem-solver for high-density storage facilities.

💪 Built for the Toughest Industrial Environments

Don’t let the "narrow" profile fool you; these steps are built for the rigours of 24/7 industrial use. Constructed from 25mm diameter steel tubing, the frame is significantly more robust than standard domestic or light-trade alternatives.

Every joint is fully welded, creating a single, rigid structure that eliminates the "wobble" often associated with bolted-together steps. This extra-heavy-duty build provides a rock-solid platform for your team, ensuring that even under constant use in high-volume distribution centres, the equipment remains as sturdy as the day it was delivered.

🛡️ Safety Certified: The Importance of EN131-7

At HSE Store, we prioritise compliance because we know it protects your most important asset: your people. This range is fully certified to BS EN 131-7, the specific British and European standard for mobile platform ladders.

Achieving this certification means the steps have passed stringent tests for lateral stability, durability, and load-bearing performance. In a narrow-base design, engineering this level of stability is a feat of British manufacturing excellence. By providing your staff with BSI Kitemarked equipment, you are meeting the highest safety benchmarks set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and ensuring your workplace remains fully compliant with modern safety regulations.

⚙️ The Side-Handlock & Anti-Ascent Security

Safety and efficiency come together in the way these steps handle movement. To ensure the steps never move while a user is climbing, this range utilizes a manual side-handlock brake.

When the lever is engaged, the wheels retract, and the steps sit firmly on rubber-bonded feet. Crucially, this action also moves an anti-ascent bar across the bottom of the steps. This physical barrier prevents a user from climbing the steps until they are safely locked to the floor. It is a fail-safe mechanical system that guarantees the unit is a rigid, stationary workstation before any work at height begins.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

  • How narrow is the "Narrow Base" compared to standard steps? The narrow base is specifically designed with a reduced footprint to fit through tighter aisles, making them ideal for older warehouses or high-density "pick-and-pack" zones where standard industrial models are too wide. Check out the individual product pages for exact dimensions.

  • What is the maximum weight capacity? These steps are rated for a Safe Working Load of 150kg. This is more than sufficient for a single operator carrying heavy stock or industrial tools. These are also overload tested to 200kg!

  • Do these steps come flat-packed? No. Like all our premium Steptek products, these arrive fully welded. This ensures maximum structural integrity from day one and saves your team the time and safety risks involved in self-assembly.

  • How does the handlock braking system work? The operator uses a side lever to retract the wheels, dropping the steps onto solid feet. This process also brings an anti-ascent bar forward, ensuring the steps cannot be climbed until the brakes are fully engaged.

  • Which tread option should I choose for my warehouse? Ribbed Rubber is comfortable and effective for clean, dry environments like retail. If you work in an area where moisture, oil, or grease might be present, we strongly recommend the Anti-slip Grit treads for maximum foot traction.

  • Are they available in different colours? Yes! While blue is our standard high-visibility colour, we can provide these in a range of shades (Red, Yellow, Green, etc.) to help you colour-code different zones in your facility. Just get in touch for a quote.
